The waiting........

Even though I booked my flight much less in advance than usual; the interim 10 days or so has been an eternity. The worry about things going wrong in this brave new world of the post-Covid(?) era has been intense. Running from anybody who coughs; scanning the room for people who look "Covid-y" and backing up. It's a minefield!

My fit to fly PCR test was a nerve shredding experience; Freddy Kreugar haunting my febrile dreams. A 12 to 14 hour wait for the results.......12 long, long hours. BUT, an email about 6 hours later informed me I was Covid free!! A negative result.....just don't breath in until Phnom Penh.

So now, sat in departures waiting for my flight. "Flight" in both senses; fleeing a European winter and the obvious. A chance to catch up on all the films I've not seen for the last 2 years.

N...N...N...Nervous.

OK. I've had my visa approved. I've bought a plane ticket. Fly end of January 2022, arriving in Phnom Penh via Singapore. So, Covid Shenanigans permitting, I will rent a bike and do a big loop of the country. Surreal feeling after not having left the UK since 2019. Still much could go wrong: positive pre flight PCR test in UK or positive Covid test on arrival in PP. But, compared to the enforced Covid imprisonment of the last 27 months (yes, I am counting!) it's got to be worth a punt.....hasn't it?

Yet another bike trip? Is there any other worthwhile kind?? 30 day visa for Cambodia; most of which will be spent on a bike. I have a rough route planned out; but as with all plans, it won't survive first contact with reality. But, hey, that is a good thing. "Adventure" motorcycling is about adventure! Not hard and fast itineraries. I'd initially planned to join a tour group (shudder) but they stiffed me with the booking.......I am honestly relieved, it is a good thing as I'm much more of a solo rider; riding to my own agenda/route/itinerary. Who wants to spend their time with a bunch of middle aged, overweight white people overdosed on testosterone? It would be like looking in a mirror!! Feck that! They did me a favour. So, it's just me and the bike. Happy days!

Heading back south.......

The road south from Mae Sariang (the fabulous 105) runs very close to the Burmese border. Spectacular scenery and blissful riding: swooping ...
